Here are a couple of Fun Food Facts from the Footers’ Kitchen
• The most purchased produce here at Footers is asparagus, red bell pepper and pinapple. We serve over 4,000 pounds of asparagus a year.
• One banana provides about the same calories as one potato. Ecuador alone provided more than 30% of global banana exports, according to Food and Agriculture Organization statistics. Because bananas and plantains are grown year-round, they provide an extremely valuable food source during the hunger season (when the food from one annual/semi-annual harvest has been consumed, and the next is still to come). Bananas are among the most widely-consumed foods in the world.
• Footers serves only fresh fruits and vegetables. The canned fruit and frozen vegetables of years past have been replaced with fresh fruit brought in daily. Canned and frozen fruits and veggies have similar nutirent content to that of fresh fruit, but the addition of sugar and preservatives in the canning and freezing process makes fresh fruit and veggies a healthier option. Another benefit to using fresh fruits is that the skin of many fruits provides valuable fiber that may be lost in the process of canning or freezing.
• Footers uses chicken breast meat for the chicken nuggets. We use white meat only, not your typical chopped, formed, pressed “chicken” nugget. This is a much healthier option because the end product has more protien, less fat and less carbohydrates.
